What if I need help?
Support and assistance are available from Pamela Brown, Deputy Executive Director at the Four County Library System. To get help, leave a reply on this blog (see below) or email her at OldDogs304@gmail.com.
How long do I have to complete the program?
Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks is a 16 week program. Kick off is January 22, 2008. Official wrap up will be May 6.
What if I can’t start on January 22?
Feel free to join the program at any time. Just keep in mind that the later you join, the more challenging it will be to complete all 24 activities within the 16 weeks.
Will this program be offered again?
Who knows? It will remain available for later comers indefinitely, but there probably will not be the same level of support or the sense of community among learners. If this program is successful, there may be a 2009 sequel with new learning activities that build on the skills developed during Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks. Every day there are new things available to explore, so why stop with just 24?
When will I have time to work on this?
Because Old Dogs is developing new skills that can be useful to your library, ask your manager whether you can complete the activities on work time.
Who is eligible to participate?
Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks is open to all members of the Four County Library System staff, our trustees, our member libraries, and their staff and trustees. These individuals are eligible to register for the program beginning in Week 2. However, anyone interested is encouraged to follow along.
How do I become eligible for the grand prize drawing?
In order to qualify for the drawing, you must register (information about that is coming in Week 2), complete all activities within the 16 weeks, and document your impressions and progress.

Woof! I welcome the opportunity to piddle, make that fiddle, around with this new stuff from the comfort of my own kennel. I’ve been meaning to sign up for a NYPL card but never got around to it. Now it’s off my to-do list.

Hello Pamela,
Just wanted to let you know you have a Closet Blogger who has been enjoying some of the activities with “Old Dogs”. And also reading through the other “Old Doggers” blogs. Esp Eugene’s. After reading his blog, it made me want to start one too. My progress has been slow. But I look forward each week to try something new to me. When I added a photo to my blog, one of our pages here at the Library was passing by, and I bet he thought I’d laid an egg or something. I was so excited. That photo was from an e-mail Steve sent me. Next I tried a photo I had on a disc. And last night I got a clip art picture off Microsoft and added that. My scrolling message was a no-show. Oh well. After reading Violet’s blog, I tried the generator. But am still working at that one. Well just thought I would finally tell you how I am doing with this “old dog lessons”.
Coming out of the closet blogger,

Old Dogs…an excellent source to explore and find your way through the confusion of setting up a blog and many of the activities that go with it. Of course, any child over the age of 6 can now do this without any instructions!
This program helped me to go through the process step by step. And without too much stress.
I would have liked to add a little music to my blog, but had a little difficulty with that one. I will keep trying!
Thank you Pamela.
Thank you Pamela
